#6728 ALCOHOL LOCK FOR PROPHYLAXIS AGAINST PERMCATH CRBSI: IS IT A BOON?

Abstract Background and Aims Introduction: Catheter related blood stream infection (CRBSI) is a dreaded complication in patients with tunneled dialysis catheter often results loss. Antibiotic lock, preventive strategy, not followed for fear of emergence resistant strains. We have reported usefulness 70% alcohol lock cases established CRBSI. The present study was aimed to find CRBSI prophylaxis. Method This single centre observational pilot study. Dialysis Permcath as vascular access were randomised into two groups. Both groups similar age, sex comorbidities. received routine heparin after each session. Group A addition also once fortnight. Patients minimum follow up 60 days included the Diagnosis made by IDSA criteria. Results Forty five permcath divided (29 patients) B (16 patients). In A, 21 B, 12 completed during mean 2988 days, 5 (23%,1/600 days) developed (2 pseudomonas, staphylococcus aureus 1 Klebsiella) group 4 (33%) 1611 (1 403 (p = 0.69) klebsiella, staphylococcus). There no case leak, crack or block either group. showed trend towards better outcome though because small number, statistical significance couldn't be reached. Conclusion found preventing Alcohol cheap there apparent damage over 6 months period. larger can confirm our findings.
